  I’ll help clean up the city park

  Period 1: 1a-grammar focus

  Teaching aims:

  1. Use the following sentence patterns for communication;

  2. Learn the following new words and phrases.

  Teaching methods:

  A Task-based teaching

  Multimedia Aids

  Teaching steps:

  Step1. Warm-up

  1. Ask the Ss “What do you think of the world?” Let the Ss think about it and give out their opinions.

  2. Show the Ss some pictures in which the world and the people suffer a lot. According to the pictures, ask some questions about them like, “Do you like the pictures? Why or why not?”

  Step 2. Presentation

  1. Say “the world is not perfect, however there are many people full of love, especially for teenagers. Let’s help the people who need our help.” Teach, “volunteer”.

  Step 3: Practice:

  1a. Ss look at the picture and answer “What are they looking at? What are they going to do?”. Help them to give some more ways we could help people, and teach some phrases.

  Step 4: Listen and Fill:

  1b. Ss listen and complete the sentences. Check the answers and Ss repeat.

  2a. Ss listen and check the things the Ss are going to do.

  2b. Ss listen again and fill in the blanks. Check the answers with the Ss

  Play the tape again and let the Ss repeat.

  Step 5: role-play

  Ss read the conversation and practice in pairs. Role-play it.

  Step 6: Grammar Focus

  Ss read the Grammar Focus and ask questions about it if they have any.

  Step 7: task work

  1. Imagine one of your friends is going to have a birthday party, what can you do to help?

  2. Next week your class will go to visit the old people’s home. Discuss what you would like to do there.

  Step 8: Practice (optional)

  1. Translation work

  2. show the Ss three more pictures and ask “what would you do?” Help the Ss answer with the sentence pattern “I’d like to…, I’d love to…, I hope to…, I volunteer to….”

  Homework: Write a short conversation with the situation above.
