It is my pleasure to recommend Mr. Fuping Wang for his application to graduate studies in your school. Mr. Wang has been my research assistant of the National Science Council's project- "The United States and the United Nations' Financial Crisis: The Role of U.S. Congress" since September 1997.

His major responsibilities include information collecting, analyzing and translating. He is an enthusiastic and progressive young man with extremely high potentiality. Mr. Wang is not only quick at learning and good at solving difficult problems, but also with a logical mind that enables him to effectively analyze difficulties. All the work handed to him was completed satisfactorily. Actually, he is so reliable that I assign him with heavy responsibilities.

With his help, I have been able to spend more time in writing the research paper. I really consider myself very fortunate to have such a capable assistant.

  dear admission committee:

miss pan bei requested a letter of recommendation from me to support her application for graduate program at your university. as her teacher, i am pleased to comply with her request. i first got to know miss pan when she enrolled at university and i was the assistant director of her class at that time. being a professor for several years, i noticed that due to the lack of self-learning ability, it is really challenging for students, even those performing excellent in senior school, to keep up with the college speed. however, as a diligent girl without any solid background in computer science before college, she adapted quickly to the especially competitive environment in our department. at the end of the first year, she earned the 5th rank in her class, while ranking 1st among the girls. i was fairly impressed by her self-learning technique and exceptional efforts. hence, i believe, goal-oriented, not afraid of inchoateness and with persistence, she has the quality to make achievements. what distinguished her among her classmates, i think, was that she went far beyond acquiring excellent scores in the exams and instead got her range of knowledge enlarged. in spring, , miss pan took the course i taught named “algebraic structures and combinatorial mathematics”. this inquisitive and assiduous young woman was sometimes the last to leave after my class, raising novel questions related to the subject. i found that she understood the knowledge in depth and detail. furthermore, i still remember during the spring vocation in may, due to the break-down of my mail box, i missed her mails to discussing some questions. but the following week during the course time, she asked me directly. her zeal for knowledge and the spirit to explore answers really leave me a deep impression. finally, she was among the few students who got almost full marks in every test in class which showed her exceeding grasp of every chapter. thus, i gave her 98/100 for the excellent performance in my course. in summary, i have every reason to believe that miss. pan will make outstanding performance at your university as a graduate. i would appreciate greatly if you give her a favorable consideration. please feel free to contact me directly if more assistance is needed.

Dear Sir or Madam, At the request of University of Denver, my student in Zhengzhou 19th High School, I’m providing this reference, which I hope can be useful for you to review her application to your undergraduate program. I have been the Chinese teacher and class director in Zhengzhou 19th High School for more than ten years. We are one of the most famous and high-quality high schools in the whole city, the faculties in our school are all renowned and highly-experienced. Though I’m relatively young in the school, I have lots of experience in Chinese teaching and student managing. I have been titled the outstanding young teacher and class-director by school and city. Yadi Wang came to my class in September 20xx, the semester she entered our school. I know she is talent in music. She used to performance flute in our school activities, such as in talent show. In 20xx, she passed the high level test of FLUTE LEVEL 8. She loves music that is all her classmates and school teachers know. YADI WANG had special leadership and friendship in my class. Once we were about to take part in our school’s drama festival. We were supposed to play a Chinese traditional drama –BAIMAONU. I analyzed some key plots and roles of this drama to my students, and then left all the other works to their own. YADI WANG was in charge of the directing and casting. It was not an easy job as it may sound. The enthusiasm made everybody ask for the leading roles, but no one was willing to take these minor ones. So YADI WANG decided to run an audition. Combined the performance in the audition and students’ actual characteristics, YADI WANG assigned everyone the most suitable role. And then, she divided the crew into several groups. Different groups rehearsed in different places at the same time. And the leading actors were the strings to connect these groups into a collectivity. Through this way, it saved lots of time, which was the scarcest thing to middle school students, to get everybody into his role. And before the final performance, she just needed to call all the actors together for a preview for once or twice. She has done even better than I had expected. Another time was in a seminar, we ran a debate competition about teacher’s professional ethics. YADI WANG was the leading debater of the con side. During the debate, she showed her wide knowledge and eloquence. She used lots of proverbs, history figures and examples to support her stand, and every word of her was incisive to get to the point, and also full of humors. Her performance won both her teammates and opponents’ admiration.

Her positivity and versatility also can be found in many other aspects. She is ours school’s famous piano player who is always invited to play in many occasions. She knows the traditional skill of calligraphy writing, which she has been practicing from very small. During weekends or vacations, the “Holiday Working Team” she leads can always be found doing many community services. Normally, in order to get more students to participate in class’s management, the student cadre will change every semester or two, by student vote. But Yadi Wang has won all the elections by now, so she continued to be the monitor from the beginning of our class to today, and very likely to the graduation. All her classmates have approbated her ability, characteristics and performance. She is already a model in the class. In this reference, I didn’t mention much about Yadi Wang’s grade, which I believe you can easily find was so outstanding from her transcripts and her ranking (25th out of 1560 students), because I’d like to give you something that you cannot find from these documents but I think is equally important to contribute to her excellence. I do hope, according to my recommendation, you could give her a favorable review. Thank you! Please feel free to contact me. Sincerely Yours Molly Yu

  Dear Prof:

As an English teacher in Xinghai Experimental Middle School in SIP, I am very pleased to take this opportunity to write a letter of recommendation for Ni Hao,one of my favorite students, to support his application for your distinguished school.

Ni Hao is an outstanding student in Xinghai Experimental Middle School in SIP. It’s about three years since I taught him English at school. I have full understanding of him in many aspects and I can say responsibly that he is a rare excellent student that our school has cultivated, and he is active and passionate about answering class questions. In my contact with him in the school, his creativity and attitude to school work gave me a deep impression. He always proposed new ideas on his school work and could resolve problems by himself, so I am very satisfied with him.He is very kind and outgoing, and he had personal talks with me several times. He indicated a great interest in learning English. Apart from that, he often puts forward his ideas upon questions and exchanges all of his innovate ideas with me after class. He is also very sporty, and he likes playing basketball very much. In a word, he is really very nice and excellent. One day, after school, it was rainning heavily, and I forgot to take my umbrella. It was him who gave me an umbrella when I was worring about how to get home without getting wet. I am very appreciated of his consideration and care. He is an honest and smart, reliable and responsible person, and is very cooperative too. He often puts some of his effort into helping others and charity show.

Based on these qualities, I believe this young man will achieve greater academic success in his future study. Therefore, I strongly support his application, and it would be greatly appreciated if you could give him your favorable consideration.

In capacity as Professor of Mathematics at Fudan University. I'm writing to recommend Mr. Wang your PhD program in Computer Science. I have known Mr. Wang since his sophomore year of college and have acted as his thesis advisor and mentor. In my experience he is a gifted and diligent student and an admirably hard worker.

Wang is an impressive student because he has been forced to overcome the significant challenge of a serious illness during his freshman year. When I first met Wang in my Discrete Math class he did not appear to be anything special to me. While his exam scores were good they were not as high as I would now expect of him. What I didn't know then was that due to his illness Wang was attempting to take all of the difficult early mathematics courses at one time including Discrete Mathematics Advanced Mathematics Linear Algebra and Possibilities. While most students found preparing for just one set of these exams difficult Wang was overwhelmed by four of them. But in the end he achieved an impressive score on the final exam which made me conscious of his unusual determination he demonstrates when confronting difficult challenges.

Mr. Wang and I have often talked about a variety of mathematics and computer science concepts and problems. During these discussions I always found him to be delightfully intelligent. Not only does he quickly understand the concepts and problems presented to him he is able to analyze these problems and present solutions. But perhaps most important is that Wang's thinking is intensely rigorous. When looking at any question he carefully scrutinizes it and if he finds any uncertain issues he clears them up immediately. I believe this kind of thought is essential to become an excellent computer programmer.

Serving as his thesis advisor I had a first-hand opportunity to observe the way in which Wang's mind works. In his senor thesis Mr. Wang mainly discussed two challenging questions in regards to″ANN″. In our books in China knowledge of ANN and its uses are very rare. Few people in China have studied this topic and consequently the materials that are available on ANN are limited. Working on this difficult project not only did Mr. Wang rise to the challenge but he went above and beyond the call of duty to analyze his secondary sources and test them for accuracy in practice. In this way he found mistakes in the book that we use. His diligence and hard work made me extremely proud of him.

Mr. Wang is an intelligent motivated and industrious individual. Teaching and advising him has been a delightful pleasure. I know that if given the chance to study abroad in America he will arm himself to become a great programmer he dreams of being. He has the intelligence and background to achieve these goals - now all he needs is the opportunity. I ask that you look upon his application favorably and grant him a chance to study in your

mechanical engineering is the foundation of industry. it plays a key role in the national economy. it’s broad field including general engineering, aeronautical, chemical and nuclear engineering, etc. provides a sufficient room of choices for me to realize the dream of becoming a scientist or a mechanical engineer. it was with this fact in mind that i decided to choose mechanical engineering as the major field of study for both undergraduate and graduate career at tsinghua university.

during nearly eight years of study at tsinghua university, i completed a total of47courses in undergraduate study,14courses in graduate study. the major courses that interested me most included: theoretical mechanics, strength of materials, elasticity and plasticity mechanical analysis of plastic deformation processes, theory of metal forming, computer language and programming, mechanical design, etc… after graduation, i entered the first heaby machinery works (in northeast of china). during this period, i became familiar with the design and manufacturing of some heavy machines, thus furthering my interest in mechanical engineering. at the same time, i found that many good ideas of design could not be put into existence because of the backwardness in raw material quality and processing techniques. this fact impelled the related areas and me to concentrate my research interest on materials science and processing. through careful survey, i selected a subject about the quality control of heavy disc forging and took it as my research subject for master degree. after over tow years of investigation, i finally made a great innovation in the forging process, making the end product rate increase from50% to90%. in the course of investigation and my later working after graduate study, i also found some problems that are common in mechanical industry. for example, how do cracks in products during hot metal working generate and develop? how to avoid cracks? how do non-metallic inclusions affect the properties of materials? how to control the content, shape and distribution of inclusions in final products? solution to these problems will improve the quality of many kinds of products. but they are often difficult to be solved because they include knowledge of many disciplines and require many new research methods. i feel that what i have learned is far from sufficient to tackle all the problems. thus i have decided to continue my education by pursuing a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering in a highly industrialized country like the united states.

i plan to complete my degree objective i3to5year and hope that i will be able to further my knowledge i areas including solid mechanics, materials science and processes, cad/cam, etc… after completing my graduate study, i will return to contribute my learning to my country. i plan to work as a researcher of a teacher at an institute or a university.

Some tips on writing a letter of recommendation

A good recommendation letter can be an asset to your college application. During admissions, most business schools- undergraduate and graduate- expect to see at least one, preferably two or three, recommendation letters for each applicant.

Recommendation letters provide admission committees with information that may or may not be found in your application, including academic and work achievements, character references, and personal details that set you apart from other applicants. Essentially, a recommendation letter is a personal reference that explains why the school should recognize you, your achievements, and your character.

Just as a good recommendation letter can be an asset, a bad recommendation letter can be a hindrance. Here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind when securing your

  recommendation letters:

Do choose someone who knows you well enough to give you a recommendation. Do get recommendations from employers, professors, school administration, and anyone else who is familiar with your work ethic. Do ask for the recommendation in person, rather than sending an email. Do tell the letter writer why you need the recommendation letter. Do mention specific things that you would like to see included. Do send a thank you note afterwards. Do keep copies of the letter.

You may need to use it again in the future.

Don’t wait until the last minute. Secure letters of recommendation as soon as possible. Don’t ask someone to lie. Don’t ever forge signatures. Don’t choose someone only for their title. Pick someone who has a title AND knows you well. Don’t choose someone who is a poor writer. Don’t hesitate to get as many recommendation letters as possible. Choose the ones that show you in the best light. Don’t be surprised if the person you are asking for a recommendation letter asks you to write a letter that they will later modify and sign. This is a common practice. Don’t forget to say please and thank you. A letter of recommendation is a valuable resource.

  Good Letters vs Bad Letters

Most business schools request to see at least two letters of recommendation during the application process. Recommendation letters provide admission committees with information that may or may not be found in your business school application, including academic and work achievements, character references, and personal details.

  Good Business School Recommendations

A good recommendation letter will supplement your business school application. It will also provide specific examples of your accomplishments and/or work ethic.

It is very important to choose the right person to write your business school recommendation. Do not pick someone based on their name and title alone. It will hurt you in the long run. You will be much better off choosing someone who knows you well. This person will be able to provide you with an honest, detailed, and heartfelt recommendation.

The best business school recommendations come from someone who writes well, speaks highly of you, and gives specifics that back up their claims.

  Bad Business School Recommendations

Business school recommendations that are poorly written can and will make you look bad. Before turning in your recommendation letter, make sure that it is up to par. Begin by checking for spelling and grammar errors.
