其实这些方面的工作，就已经需要花费很多的精力了。姚明就表示，这些年姚基金筹得的善款，在严格的流程审查下，很多都投入到这些方面。志愿者们会到需要帮助的孩子们身边，受到过专业培训的他们，可以将专业的篮球知识和体育技巧传授给孩子们。另外，姚基金也为这些孩子们搭建比赛的舞台，让他们可以获得交流和切磋，然后提高自我的机会。
然而除了这些，姚明还有更多想要带给孩子们的东西。“精神层面上，我相信体育所锻炼的不只是人的体格，”姚明说，“有三条非常重要——一、尊重规则，二、认同竞争，三、认同团队合作。特别是篮球或者足球这种体育项目，同时这三点也是大家在工作中慢慢学会的三样东西。孩子们先在体育课上有一些体验，这算是给他们的一个提前教育。而且这给我们对志愿者的培训提供了一种不同的方向。不仅仅在于篮球课要怎么教怎么打，同时也要在课上增加一些小技巧，告诉他们如何去引导孩子们的这种思想。”
打球的时候，姚明就展现出他的智慧。而体育对于人的塑造，也远不仅仅是对身体的打磨，如果能够参透精神领域，那它对人的提高无疑会更大。姚明的球员时代就是如此，而他如今希望能够让更多的孩子们体会到这一点。哪怕现在他们无法理解，但这颗播种在他们心里的种子，在合适的时间就会萌芽和生长起来。

在慈善赛开始前，姚明与来自祖国各地的媒体见面，接受大家的采访。有位记者提问姚明，这次慈善赛请来了扣篮大赛冠军拉文和“最牛亚军”戈登，还有刚刚从里约奥运会回来的周琦和王哲林等人，这些大牌的球星，在邀请他们时是否有很曲折的过程呢?
