以上是从大的方面对《神曲》大意的一点自我见解。而从小的方面看，《神曲》诚然是一曲中世纪拙朴的史诗。在《神曲》里，随处可见古希腊神话和《荷马史诗》的影响。英雄主义、正义，神学的光芒照耀着整部《神曲》，犹如但丁在天堂中看到的天使的光芒，《神曲》本身也散发着耀眼的金光。然而，《神曲》的金光却并不全为歌颂金光而写，而是为了歌颂世俗伟大的道德和信仰而作，这正是《神曲》对古希腊神话的借鉴和突破之处。
然而，由于《神曲》大量地运用古希腊神话的典故，因而初读给人一种晦涩难懂的感觉，对读者的西方文学功底有较大的要求。
一部伟大的诗篇，语言是其重要的表现手法。《神曲》的语言一承西方文学的理性辩论的风格，而与我们熟悉的中国诗歌的语言截然不同。
