从整本书的艺术性来看，《傲慢与偏见》的确不及《乱世佳人》。但这在深刻思索后的确不难发现，也不难理解。奥斯丁作为女作家，并无太多人赞同，这当然造成了女作家在许多写作才能上不及男作家。尽管我可以原谅这些不足，但相对于同样的女作家夏洛蒂与艾米莉，奥斯丁也显然有这些方面不足。所以至今我还坚信，《傲慢与偏见》的确有许多过人之处，但毛姆将它列为世界十大著名小说之一就未免言过其实了。
