万圣节 Halloween
Halloween, also known as All Hallows’ Eve,is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on October 31, theeve of the western Christian feast of All Hallows, especially in westerncountries. But nowadays, it has been more popular in some Asian countries,particularly among young people.
In modern society, the imagery of Halloweenincludes themes of death, evil, the occult, mythical monsters, etc.At the same time, Halloween has been a seasonal celebration which is consideredas the end of autumn and the beginning of winter.
According to the traditional custom, many typicalactivities will be held on Hallows’ eve. As is known to all, “Trick or treat” is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Childrenwill go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy (sweets)or sometimes money by asking the question "Trick or treat?". The word"trick" refers to a (mostly idle) "threat" to performmischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given. In addition,there are other activities and games on Hallows’ eve. For example, all kinds ofHalloween parties are held by schools or students. Furthermore, bobbing forapples and making Jack-o-lanterns are also the typical games for children.
As atraditional festival, Halloween has showed many customs and cultures of westerncountries and brought some joy for children. Besides, it has made somecontribution to develop economy and provided an opportunity for people to getalong with each other.
Black, orange,and sometimes puprle are Halloween's traditional colors.
